The last three months of 2011 were very eventful for our technical communities. Over 20 activities were delivered to members; covering healthcare, space, manufacturing, communications and Engineering the Olympics.
| Data centre design seminar In early October, the Built Environment Technologies Network (BETNET) hosted a one-day seminar on power delivery and cooling for data centres. The event’s 50 delegates gained a useful insight into energy efficiencies and tackling data audit challenges. |
| Following the Gagarin lecture in April, the Aerospace Network recently organised another space-themed activity, this time looking back at Achievements in Space and the future of the industry. The event attracted 140 delegates, with one commenting: “A very good event and very informative. Well done the Aerospace Network.” |
| The IET special interest publication Delivering London 2012: ICT Enabling the Games was launched in November. It was produced with input from Information and Communications Sector, Multimedia Communications Network and Vision and Imaging Network committee members. |
| David Parr from Waters Corporation was announced as the winner of the inaugural Terry Bishop Award at the Association of Cost Engineers (ACostE) Conference in November. This initiative of the IET / ACostE Project Controls Network celebrates project controls excellence. |
| Healthcare Technologies - Disaster Medicine and the History of Humanitarianism lecture The 2011 Healthcare Technologies lecture on ‘Disaster Medicine and the History of Humanitarianism’ attracted 65 delegates. The topic was well-received, with feedback including: “Very interesting details presented by the speaker regarding all aspects related to Disaster Medicine.” |
| Sustainable Manufacturing Symposium In early November our Manufacturing Network and Cranfield University brought together leading international manufacturing companies to the Sustainable Manufacturing Symposium. Forty delegates heard about the sustainable measures adopted by Airbus, Toyota, ABB and Weetabix Ltd. |
| Last year's John Logie Baird Lecture was delivered by David Docherty, Chairman of the Digital TV Group (DTG). David spoke on 'Building on broadcast: enhancing the viewer experience in the connected era'. Positive feedback was received from the 58 attendees. |
